What is a CSA

Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) does not sell its products on the market, but rather directly to participating families throughout the harvest. The participants finance this form of agricultural production ahead of time, and can actively participate.

Community Supported Agriculture promotes and sustains a diverse farming, offers regional food, and enables new experiences and education.

CSA at our farm

In our first year on the farm, we already decided to start our Community Supported Agriculture project. We are big fans of gardening, and have always cultivated a garden, aiming to share this joy with other families.

The Fromburg Farm CSA started in Spring 2017. This year, we aim to produce vegetables and fruit for 30 families. The members of the CSA come once a week to the Fromburg farm to harvest their basket of vegetables and fruit. Saturdays, members can also participate in the garden work. Anyone who wants to get their hands dirty can help with the sowing, picking and weeding. Together with the members we will continue to develop the garden project and try out new plant varieties.

We will expand our garden and open it to new participants for the 2018 garden season: click here to register

Our harvest season starts in May, with the first lettuce and herbs and ends in October with winter vegetables such as cabbages and potatoes. Over 40 different fruits and vegetables are grown in accordance with our members. Through the use of true-to-seed varieties, our offer is fundamentally different to the hybrid plants in the supermarkets.

We plant all common vegetables, such as salads, potatoes, cabbage, beans, carrots, zucchini etc., and some plants in a greenhouse (e.g. tomatoes, chili, eggplants and peppers). Fruit, flowers, berries and herbs complete the offer.

We don’t see our CSA as solely produce production, but instead as an integrated part of our farm. The leftovers from the vegetable production are fed to the small animals. The participants are welcome to bring their children and family and to experience a bit of everyday farm life. There is even a playground just for the kids right next the garden!
